ARAG is a global company with more than 80 years of experience, and a network of 14,000 attorneys in the U.S. It provides comprehensive employer-sponsored legal plans for employees, at a cost of about $20/month. Some legal issues are covered in full, some have coverage caps, and others are not covered—however, ARAG members may be eligible for 25% off network attorney fees for non-covered legal issues. How Much is ARAG Legal Insurance?

If need help with an existing legal issue, you can sign up for Legal Now, a personal legal plan from ARAG, for $99. This plan gives you access to professional legal help in the area of law where you need it. Once you join, you can choose a network attorney in your area, and save 25% on that attorney’s legal fees. More than 70 common legal matters are covered, including estate planning, traffic tickets, consumer protection and more. This plan does not pay for coverage of your legal expenses—it simply provides you with a discount on those services.

ARAG also provides legal insurance plans through employers, to employees, through their Ultimate Advisor and Ultimate Advisor Plus plans. These plans pay for 100% of Network Attorney fees for paid-in-full, covered matters. Employees get access to more than 14,000 attorneys, with assistance available in person or by phone. Many common legal issues, like preparing a will, purchasing or selling a home, or collecting child support, are fully covered by these plans.

Employer plan pricing is not listed on the ARAG website, but an article in its Resource section noted that comprehensive group legal plans usually cost about $20 per month. This amount can be conveniently deducted from an employee’s paycheck, like other benefits. Employers may offer ARAG plans to employees at no cost to the employer, with employees themselves covering the cost of enrollment. Employers who wish to offer ARAG may submit a form to receive detailed information about what plans for their company might cost.

Both the Ultimate Advisor and Ultimate Advisor Plus plans offer coverage for a wide range of legal issues, including administrative hearings, bankruptcy and debt, civil matters, consumer protection, criminal matters, custody and support matters, divorce, drivers’ license and traffic tickets, elder law, family law, immigration, Internet law, real estate and home ownership, services for tenants, tax issues, wills, trusts and estate planning.

Some legal matters, like Chapter 11 Bankruptcy filing, Social Security hearings, and personal property disputes are paid in full, meaning your insurance will pay for 100% of network attorney fees. Other matters, including medical malpractice, personal injury claims and felonies, are not fully covered, but may be eligible for 25% reduced network attorney fees. The ARAG website also lists capped benefits for some matters, meaning they are paid in full only up to the number of hours or maximum dollar benefit specified in the plan. How does the cost compare to traditional attorney services?

If you purchase a personal plan, you can save 25% on attorney services. Employees who have ARAG plans pay around $20 per month for coverage, and receive covered legal services at no cost, as well as 25% off non-covered services. Depending on the legal issues you are facing, you could save hundreds or thousands of dollars. For example, without legal insurance, average attorney fees for a will could cost $1,619. A dispute with a neighbor could cost you $3,238 in attorney fees. To settle a child support case, you might pay an attorney $3,128. All of these matters are fully covered by ARAG legal insurance, at a cost of only $20 per month.
